I have been practicing yoga for more than twenty years and have studied with many inspirational teachers. In 2015 I qualified to teach children and young people and in 2017 completed the British Wheel of Yoga's 300hr teacher training. In 2019 I became qualified to deliver the Yoga4Health course which was devised in partnership with the NHS and which has proven benefits for health + wellbeing

My yoga classes are for anyone who is looking for some respite from their busy lives. I will guide you through mindful, breath-led movement, building from the foundations up, embedding yoga fundamentals and correct alignment in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment

Each class begins with a short breathing meditation. We then move through a sequence of asanas (postures). These are taught using a staged approach, ensuring that they are suitable for all flexibilities and enabling you to build a sustainable practice. We end in savasana (relaxation). I try to offer a variety of savasana experiences; guided visualisations, body scans and sometimes, simply heavenly music. My aim is to leave you feeling renewed - energised, relaxed, stretched and empowered

Yoga brings about equilibrium - balancing the spiritual, physical and mental aspects of your life. Balancing exertion with rest, strength with softness, male and female energies. I endeavour to weave these opposing, exciting and often challenging aspects of yoga through all my classes.

However, I think the most important thing I would say to anyone who was considering trying out one of my classes is this - yoga is 100%  real-world. Yoga will equip you with transferable skills which will enhance your life and help you better deal with the stress, anxiety and overwhelm which are such common features of modern life. (Please read my blog, Yoga - Not Just for Hippies, for more on this)

Nobody knows for sure exactly how to date the ancient Yoga Sutras, but they are commonly thought to have been compiled around 2000AD. Yoga is described in the second Sutra as, 'The cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.' This ancient sentiment, arguably more applicable today than ever, is how I approach my yoga teaching. While yoga involves the movement of the body into postures that strengthen, stretch and release, the poses are always a vehicle for the real yoga - coming home to yourself, breathing and finding peace of mind.

The practice of yoga is an energising, awakening and challenging one which can help you grow in strength and confidence as you discover more about your own body and uncover layer upon layer of your inner self. It is called a practice because the journey is lifelong; there is no destination, no end-point, just a constantly evolving, fluid re-learning. With practice, yoga will help you build strength, flexibility and awareness. It might just change your life! Here are some tips to ensure you enjoy a long, safe and joyful yoga practice.

  • Listen to your own body. Be kind and gentle with yourself. Try not to compare yourself to anyone else. They are on a different journey to you in a different body!

  • Be patient – there is no rush. Don’t be discouraged. Whatever your starting point, progress is made in small steps

  • Let me know if you have any injuries or conditions. I will be able to ensure that you can practice safely

  • Try not to eat a large meal right before class. Yoga is best practiced on an almost empty stomach

  • Bring a blanket to class. Cosiness is an important part of self-love. And, you’ll be surprised at its many uses

  • Bring some water. Staying hydrated, especially in dynamic classes or warm rooms, is really important

  • Yoga means ‘union’. In yoga we aim to reconnect our bodies and our mind, our physical self with our spiritual self, and our movement with our breath. The balance which you strive for in your practice can spill over into your day to day life with profound results

  • Smile and breath. Enjoy each moment on your mat, the best gift you can give yourself

What I Need to Know -

What I Don't Need to Know -

  • Any current, or previous, injuries, illnesses or conditions which may prevent you from practicing safely

  • If you are pregnant

  • Anything else! Specifically why you are coming to class. That's your business. Come as you are. Everything is fine with me

Kind Words - What yoga students have said;

'My beautiful friend is also a yoga teacher and one of the very best. This is the kind of yoga that sneaks up on you ... gentle, soothing, mindful, delicious and then woooaaahh did I just do that?!?'  Katy - Women's business coach

'Cat's Thursday evening sessions have become a not-to-be-missed highlight of my week.'  Toby - Web designer
